Principal’s Message
Dear Pupils and Parents/Guardians
Da Qiao Primary School has gone a long way in its journey to achieve the vision of ‘A Learning Community Committed to Excellence’. Our focus is on the holistic development of students as encapsulated in the school mission ‘To develop pupils to their full potential, to inculcate in them a sense of moral integrity and social responsibility and to nurture them to be creative thinkers and caring citizens’ as well as the school core values of CREATE, namely, Compassion, Responsibility, Enterprise, Appreciation, Teamwork and Excellence.
Teachers are key at Da Qiao Primary and they play a crucial role in building quality teacher-pupil relationships and providing a nurturing and safe environment for learning and engagement in and out of the classroom. We are proud of our team of committed teachers who ensure that no child is left behind and pupil needs are looked into. Driven by our strategic thrusts of People and Service Excellence, we will continue to build the capacity of our staff and provide the support for teachers to help our pupils in their academic and character development.
The school has made commendable achievements over the years. In the area of academic outcomes, DQPS has consistently performed better than comparable schools. In the recent PSLE, 100% of our pupils qualified for secondary school placement for the first time in ten years. Achieving the Green Audit Award (Lotus) in 2012 and 2013, as well as the Total Defence Award for the fourth year running is testimony of the school efforts to provide authentic learning experiences for our pupils.
In the Co-Curricular arena, our pupils have excelled in national competitions such as Scrabble, Basketball, and Rope Skipping. In Scrabble, the pupils emerged champion for the Plate category in the Senior Team and the overall champion for the school in the P3 Scrabble Dash. The Senior Boys in Basketball qualified for the top 8 teams in the nationals this year. The Rope Skipping team emerged runners-up in a number of national skipping competitions. For the uniformed groups, our Scouts and Brownies clinched the Frank Cooper Sands Award (Bronze) and Puan Noor Aishah Award (Bronze) respectively. In the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) for Art, our pupils did us proud with their creative Artwork ‘Van Gogh Through My Eyes’ by garnering a Certificate of Recognition. During the last SYF for Performing Arts, our pupils achieved the Gold, Silver and Bronze in Bhangra Dance, Chinese Dance and the Harmonica.
These achievements would not have been possible without the strong support, commitment and dedication of our teachers and parents. We are pleased that in 2013, three of our teachers received national accolades for their outstanding work and contributions. Mdm Shakila Jamal Mohamed, Miss Rezia Rahumathullah and Mrs Sangeetha Siva received the President’s Award for Teachers (PAT), National Day Commendation Award, and the Inspiring Teacher of English Award respectively.
Moving forward, we wish to thank all parents and stakeholders for your belief in the school and your support. We will continue to engage our stakeholders and the community to make Da Qiao Primary a choice school in the vicinity.
